Pancake Day!

Pancakes Galore! on PhotoPeach

“I am so excited!”  “I am going to put lemon and sugar on mine” ” I love eating my pancake with jam” “I help my mum and make pancakes at home”  “Look at all the bubbles on the pancakes!”  These are some of the things we heard in our classroom today.  3TM was very happy to make delicious pancakes with lots of different toppings.

We learned that Shrove Tuesday  is the day before Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent. ‘Shrove’ – as in Shrove Tuesday – stems from old English word ‘shrive’, meaning ‘confess all sins’.   It is called  Pancake Day because it is the day traditionally for eating pancakes as pancake recipeswere a way to use up any stocks of milk, butter and eggs which were forbidden during the abstinence of Lent.

Did you eat pancakes on Shrove Tuesday?  what topping did you like best?

  1. Hi Ms Tieppo,

It’s been two years since I was in 2TM but I still remember making pancakes. I like my pancakes with lemon and sugar. I wish year 4’s made pancakes. 🙁

    • Hi Viduni,
Nice to hear from you. Wow you still remember making pancakes in 2TM! It’s funny how we always remember the fun things at school. I must admit I love the lemon and sugar too. Hope you are enjoying Year 4 even if you didn’t get to make pancakes.

  2. Shrove Tuesday was really cool and fun.
When I got my pancake I put on maple syrup and
sugar. It was so yum that I had to have more.
It was the best day ever.

  5. Hi Ms Tieppo and 3TM

What a fun time you must have had making and eating all of those “scrumdiddlyumptious” pancakes!

I like the way you made your pancakes into the letters of your name Nathan!

I wonder what the most popular pancake topping in 3TM might be…

    Miss Y 🙂

    • Dear Miss Y,

Thank you for visiting our blog and leaving us a comment. We loved making pancakes last week.

When I was putting topping on my pancake, I saw lots of people using sugar and maple syrup. I think that this was most popular.

Did you make pancakes on Shrove Tuesday?

      See you soon,

  6. Hi 3TM,
I made pancakes for my boys. They like to put butter and icing sugar on top of their pancakes. I thought the pancakes you made in class were a lot yummier than mine.
    Keep smiling!

    • Hi Roman,

I agree with you. The smell of the pancakes was just beautiful. We will have to wait another year for another Shrove Tuesday.

  8. My pancakes were shaped in the letters of my name, so I ate 6 pancakes in the shapes of ‘n, a, t, h, a n’ with apricot and raspberry jam. It was very yummy.

    • Thanks for making time to comment on our Pancake Day post Nathan. You must have been very full after all those pancakes!

      Keep smiling,
      Ms. Tieppo
