Pancake Day!

Pancakes Galore! on PhotoPeach

“I am so excited!”  “I am going to put lemon and sugar on mine” ” I love eating my pancake with jam” “I help my mum and make pancakes at home”  “Look at all the bubbles on the pancakes!”  These are some of the things we heard in our classroom today.  3TM was very happy to make delicious pancakes with lots of different toppings.

We learned that Shrove Tuesday  is the day before Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent. ‘Shrove’ – as in Shrove Tuesday – stems from old English word ‘shrive’, meaning ‘confess all sins’.   It is called  Pancake Day because it is the day traditionally for eating pancakes as pancake recipeswere a way to use up any stocks of milk, butter and eggs which were forbidden during the abstinence of Lent.

Did you eat pancakes on Shrove Tuesday?  what topping did you like best?

Pancake Tuesday

Today it was Shrove Tuesday or Pancake day in our classroom.  We made our own pancakes with milk, flour, sugar and eggs.

When the pancakes were cooked, we put maple syrup, sugar or jam on them.  Lots of children in 2TM tooks photos of our pancake day.  We hope you like them.  2TM had a wonderful time today.

What do you like on your pancakes?

Do you use the same ingredients to make pancakes?

Pancake Tuesday

Today it was “Shrove Tuesday” or “Pancake Tuesday”.  We learned about the tradition of using up all the special things like eggs, milk and butter before the season of Lent arrived.

It was fun helping to mix the pancake batter.  Cathy came to help us out with the cooking of the pancakes.  We got to choose the topping that we liked.  Some of the toppings included honey, lemon, sugar and maple syrup.

What is your favourite pancake topping?  What did you like about making pancakes?
